PPFE FORMATION PATH
The Prison Pastoral Formation Ecosystem (PPFE) provides a progressive formation pathway for new, regular, occasional, and returning volunteers serving in jail, prison, and detention ministry.
Before Beginning Your PPFE Formation
Before accessing Domus Misericordiae, all volunteers must first complete the Volunteer Information Form through the Volunteering page.
After submitting the form, you will immediately receive the access information for Domus Misericordiae (Moodle) on the confirmation screen.
Please save or take a screenshot of this information before closing the page.
When entering Domus Misericordiae:
- Create only one Moodle account and one username.
- Use the same email address used on the Volunteer Information Form.
- Choose English or Spanish for PPFE 000 and continue future PPFE levels in the same language.
- Do not enroll in both language versions.

PPFE 000 — Orientation & Refresher
Self-paced online orientation required for all volunteers.
PPFE 101 — Foundations of Prison Pastoral Care
Three-part, self-paced online formation focused on identity, mission, pastoral presence, mercy, boundaries, and responsible service.
Encounter Retreat—In Person
A three-hour in-person retreat following completion of PPFE 101.
PPFE 102 — Pastoral Presence & Listening

PPFE 103 — Communion, Mission & Responsible Service
