The Formation process is conceived as an integral and progressive pathway, ordered toward the preparation and ongoing renewal of those called to serve in the ministry of pastoral care within detention and prison contexts. Rooted in the Gospel mandate—“I was in prison and you visited me” (Mt 25:36)—this formation seeks to cultivate a ministry that is authentically ecclesial, missionary in spirit, and grounded in the dignity of the human person.
Structured in three complementary levels, the process fosters a gradual deepening of theological understanding, pastoral discernment, and practical competence. It accompanies participants from foundational formation, through sustained pastoral accompaniment, to a mature exercise of co-responsibility in leadership and service.
This pathway is not limited to initial preparation, but is oriented toward ongoing formation, recognizing that pastoral charity requires continual conversion, discernment, and growth. In this way, the Formation process contributes to building a unified, stable, and sustainable pastoral presence, in communion with the mission of the Church and attentive to the signs of the times.
